Today, more and more, mining companies must produce higher quality iron ore pellets at a lower cost. This research on improved pellet quality passes through the crucial steps of grinding, slurry filtering, green ball preparation and firing.
PCR PLUS specialises in the fabrication of Vertical Vacuum Disk Filters, for the reduction of moisture from slurry. Our system is very efficient in the increase of production, reduction of the moisture and of course maintenance costs. Each component, such as the filter barrel or the stainless filter sectors are optimised in order to reduce and eliminate unnecessary parts. The objective of our research is to increase the air volume in order to dehydrate the iron ore filtercake.
PCR PLUS fabricates its filtering system in sizes from 6’-9’’, 9’-0 and 9’-4’’ diameter which have from 8 to 12 rows of disks. Each system is adapted to the existing customer equipment and without modification of the components, such as: bearings, gear train, wear plates and head valves.
The filter barrel is fabricated to have interchangeable tubes. These tubes can be replaced as required, directly in place with a minimum of downtime. Tube diameters have been optimised to provide a higher performance.
The stainless filter sectors are lightweight and very resistant. They are custom made and are adaptable to any type of filter barrel. Filters offer a large filtration surface of seventy-two percent (72 %). Compared to plastic filter sectors, PCR PLUS filter sectors have a working life of up to five years (5). They are repairable and very resistant to high temperatures.

Presently, several filtration systems are operating at different pellet plants. The results obtained with PCR PLUS filtering systems without a doubt have increased filter productivity. It was witnessed that the thickness of filtercake, which is the accepted productivity measure, has been increased by twenty percent (20%) keeping the moisture level in average 8.5 - 9.0 % range.
