Successful use of Nylon pulleys for corrosive applications

To prolong the life of the cable, Formothane manufactured nylon pulleys to replace the steel ones.

Salt air causes rapid degradation of metal pulleys due to the corrosive nature of the setting. The pulleys and ship loading conveyor cables oxidise rapidly causing premature wear on these components.

IOC called on Formothane to resolve this situation. To prolong the life of the cable, Formothane manufactured nylon pulleys to replace the steel ones. Very quickly this innovation cost reductions, because of this nylon – steel combination helped reduce the wear on the steel cable and a noise reduction caused by steel on steel friction. The nylon pulley is non-corrosive.

Our nylon pulleys are used in several other industrial sectors.

For over 30 years, Formothane has developed multiple polymer (nylon, polyurethane, polyethylene, others) parts and components as value added replacement parts for usual metal based components. Designed specifically for mining companies, pulp & paper mills, sawmills, aluminium smelters and the food sector, Formothane’s polymer parts and components have significantly increased production facilities efficiency. In certain cases, innovative polymer parts and components manufactured by Formothane have become industry standard thus granting Formothane an OEM manufacturer supplier status.
